Privacy Policy

Last updated:

1. Who we are and how to contact us

This site is run by The McMidgey Clan.

For questions about your data, email mcmidgey@hotmail.com.

2. What we collect

We do not ask for more than we need. We collect:

  • Your email address and display name.
  • Your password. Our login provider stores it in hashed form, not as readable text. We cannot read your password.
  • An optional avatar and favourite character, if you add them.
  • Messages you post in Clan Chat. Other signed-in members can read them.
  • Basic technical data, such as your IP address, browser type and error logs.

The Contact Us form currently keeps what you type only on the page. It does not send an email or save your message in our database.

3. Why we use it

We use your data to run your account and let you sign in. We use your profile and messages to show the community chat.

We also use it to moderate messages, deal with abuse and keep the site safe.

4. Where it is stored

We use third-party services for hosting, login and data storage:

  • Lovable — our site hosting and app service.
  • Supabase — the database and login service used by Lovable Cloud.
  • Lovable AI — sends Ask the Clan text to an AI model from Anthropic to write replies.

Our database is hosted in London, UK. Our service providers may also process data in other countries.

Images and files are served by our hosting and storage providers. These providers can see your IP address when your browser loads them. If an image is hosted elsewhere, that provider can also see your IP address.

5. Cookies and local storage

We do not set advertising or analytics cookies.

To keep you signed in, our login system saves a small login token in your browser's local storage, not a cookie. It is needed for login to work. Signing out removes it.

When the site is shown inside the Lovable editor, login details may also be shared with the editor to keep its previews signed in.

We do not load third-party fonts or tracking scripts on the normal site. The Lovable editor preview may use tools to report errors while we test the site.

Our hosting provider may keep basic technical logs, such as IP addresses.

If we ever add analytics or other non-essential cookies, we will ask for consent first and update this policy.

6. Ask the Clan (AI bard)

The Ask the Clan page sends the questions you type to an AI service, provided through Lovable, to write a reply. The AI model is from Anthropic.

Please do not type personal details, such as names, addresses, phone numbers or health details, into it.

Our site does not save these questions or replies in our own database. The conversation is kept on the page during your visit. Recent questions and replies from the same conversation are sent with each new question so the bard can follow it. Reloading or leaving the page clears the conversation from the page.

To stop misuse, we keep a scrambled record based on your IP address for up to 24 hours to count how often Ask the Clan is used. We do not keep your questions.

Replies come from an AI and may be wrong. They are for fun, not advice.

Lovable and the AI provider may keep records under their own rules, for periods we do not control. Not saving it in our own database does not mean these services keep no records.

7. How long we keep data

We keep account data while your account is open. Our service providers may keep technical logs and backups under their own rules, for periods we do not control.

When you ask to delete your account, we keep it for 30 days in case you change your mind. You can log in during that time to cancel. After 30 days we permanently delete your profile, login details and chat messages. Our service providers may keep backups for a while longer under their own rules. If you want your account deleted sooner, email mcmidgey@hotmail.com.

A message may still identify you if you put personal details in its text. Please avoid doing this. You can ask us to remove such details.

8. Your rights

You can ask to see your data, correct it or delete it. You can also object to how we use it. These rights may depend on the circumstances.

You can edit your profile or delete your own account in Account Settings. You can also email mcmidgey@hotmail.com to ask for help or make a data request.

We may ask for enough information to check that the request comes from you.

9. Children

Members must be 13 or older. Under 16s need a parent or guardian's permission.

If you are concerned about a child's account or data, contact mcmidgey@hotmail.com.

10. Security

We use our providers' login tools and access controls to help protect data. We limit access to account management tools.

No website or storage system is perfectly secure. Keep your password private and tell us if you think your account has been misused.

This site is an early beta, so we may change how it works or reset data while we improve it.

11. Updates, email and text messages

At the moment we do not send news or marketing messages, and we do not ask for your phone number.

We do send service messages you need, such as password reset emails. These are not marketing.

If we start sending news, offers or updates by email or text message later, we will ask you separately first. You will see a clear box, not ticked, saying what you would get and how (email or text). Agreeing to the Terms or Privacy Policy will not count as agreeing to marketing.

You will be able to say no, and to stop messages at any time, by an unsubscribe link in every email or by replying STOP to texts.

We will keep a record of what you agreed to and when.

We will only collect a phone number if you choose to give it for this purpose.

12. Changes and complaints

We may change this policy as the site develops. We will show the new text here and update the date.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, email mcmidgey@hotmail.com. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Visit the ICO complaints page.
